How to Make Your Session Great

Here are several tips to help you set up a great space for virtual therapy! 

  • First, your space is key. Set up a space for therapy that is distinctive from other daily living spaces. I recommend a separate chair from where you work or relax. 

  • Utilize as much bright, natural light as possible or a space that is well lit by lamps or overhead lighting. This ensures few shadows on the screen and an ability to see each other well!

  • Try to find a space with minimal distractions. A place where you have privacy is ideal for therapy. Try a little ambient noise, through a machine or app, or even a fan if you are in an area of your home that gets traffic. This enables you to concentrate on you and what you want to discuss during your session. 

  • Try to find a time of day where there is more protected space with fewer demands on your time and attention. Life gets busy, believe me! But think about therapy as your time to invest in your self-care and wellbeing. 

  • Feel free to bring some water or a soothing cup of tea to your session! If you like to keep your hands busy, bring along a squeeze ball, coloring book, fidget, or soft blanket. 

  • And, finally, a strong, stable internet connection is essential!
